AI Skills Credential vs. Vendor Certification: What Does Each Prove?
Vendor certifications and applied AI credentials are not interchangeable. A careful hiring manager should ask each one a different question.
A vendor certification is strongest when it verifies knowledge of a specific platform: its features, configuration model, security controls, or recommended implementation patterns. That knowledge matters for roles responsible for administering or deploying that platform.
An applied AI capability credential should answer a broader question: can this person use AI responsibly to produce strong work? That requires evidence of task framing, context selection, iteration, validation, and ownership of the final result. Those behaviors can transfer when the model, interface, or vendor changes.

A badge is not enough
For either credential, read the specification behind it. Look for the assessment format, threshold, reviewer qualifications, version, issue date, and revocation policy. If the issuer will not publish those details, the badge is a claim rather than inspectable evidence.
